     ENGINEER UNITS WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE WHAT CAN BE

     CONSIDERED NEARLY OFFICIAL HISTORIES OF THE 353RD ENGINEER

     GENERAL SERVICE REGIMENT, THE 369TH ENGINEER SPECIAL

     SERVICES REGIMENT, THE 1393RD ENGINEER CONSTRUCTION

     BATTALION, THE 1394TH ENGINEER CONSTRUCTION BATTALION AND

     THE 1177TH ENGINEER CONSTRUCTION GROUP.

         

              FOR THE HISTORY OF THE 369TH WE CAN THANK TWO MEN. ONE

     IS THE WRITER, HISTORIAN AND ADJUTANT, CAPTAIN F M.

     CADIGAN, C.E. AND THE OTHER IS FRANK I. KASTORY, 369TH AND

     1394TH ENGINEERS IN COMPAMIES C AND H&S RESPECTIVELY. FRANK

     KASTORY SAVED CAPTAIN CADIGAN’S HISTORY FOR FIFTY YEARS AND

     PROVIDED IT TO THE REUNION COMMITTEE FOR PUBLICATION.

         

              FOR THE HISTORY OF THE 353RD, 1393RD AND THE 1177TH WE

     OWE OUR PROFUSE THANKS TO MAJOR ROBERT S. MAACK, C.E., FOR

     PAINSTAKINGLY GOING THRU VOLUMES OF OLD RECORDS AND WRITING

     THE HISTORY (WITH THE HELP OF HIS WIFE BETTY SUE) SOME FIFTY

     YEARS AFTER THE EVENTS.

         

              WE ASKED OUR COMRADES FOR THEIR HELP IN TRACING THE

     ACTIVITIES OF THEIR UNITS FOR THE PERIODS OF TIME NOT

     COVERED BY OUR "OFFICIAL" HISTORIES.

         

              FROM THE 1393RD ENGINEERS H. LAWRENCE FRAZIN AND

     CHANDOS H. MOHR, H&S COMPANY, ARDSON SHEGOIAN, COMPANY A,

     AND PETER S. RAKIEWIZ, COMPANY B, PROVIDED US WITH THE MOST

     DETAILED ACCOUNTS. A COMPOSITE OF THEIR ACCOUNTS FOLLOWS

     BELOW. PAUL J. DIETER, 353RD. COMPANY A, HAS PROVIDED THE

     ITINERARY OF THE 353RD BATTALION. NOT BEING PROFESSIONAL

     ENGINEERS THEIRS IS THE RECOUNTING FROM THE EYES OF THE

     REGULAR G.I. WITHOUT PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS AND ASSOCIATED

     STATISTICS.

     10 APR 45 LIGHTS WENT DIM AND THEN OUT. TROUBLE WITH

                THE GENERATOR. O.K. NOW.

         

     11 APR 45 GRENADE RANGE. LATER IN THE PM HAD A DIS-

                CUSSION TDR&R. TO THIS DAY I AM AT A LOSS

                AS TO THE DEFINITION OF THOSE LETTERS. (ED.
